This truck has excellent power and capabilities, a generous number of driver assistance features, and fantastic value for its price. If this has made you eager to visit a Nissan dealer in Knoxville, then come by Rusty Wallace Nissan. Until then, peruse our guide to review the highlights of the midsize Frontier and what you will get with each trim.

An Overview of the 2025 Frontier

Power and Fuel Economy

The Frontier may be a smaller truck, but there is nothing small about its muscle. Under the hood is a potent 3.8-liter V6 that generates 310 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque. This pickup is a joy to drive, as it handles very nicely and is easy to maneuver in small spaces. In addition, it always provides a smooth ride. The Frontier gets good fuel economy figures, too, earning an EPA-estimated 19 MPG in the city and 24 MPG on the highway in the standard rear-wheel drive; with the available four-wheel drive, you will get 17 MPG in the city and 21 MPG on the highway.

Towing and Hauling Ability

You will appreciate how tough the Nissan Frontier is. When properly equipped, it can tow up to 7,150 lbs, and the Trailer Sway Control feature comes standard to help you. There are other features you can add to make towing easier, including the Intelligent Around View Monitor, which utilizes guidelines to make lining up the hitch a snap. The Frontier is also a top hauler, as it has a maximum payload limit of 1,620 lbs. There are two bed options to pick from: a short bed, at 5 feet long with 40.1 cu.ft. of space, or a long bed, at 6 feet and 1 inch with 49.6 cu.ft. of space.

Space and Comfort

For most trims, the Frontier has two cab choices: the King Cab, which can accommodate four people, and the Crew Cab, which can accommodate five. Headroom and legroom are especially plentiful in the front row. No matter which truck cab you choose, you will get Nissan’s terrific Zero Gravity seats in the front row, which are ultra-comfortable and will keep you in great spirits regardless of the duration of the trip. Your interior cargo space is ample, too, and there is a bin on top of the dashboard in which you can store your smaller stuff.

The Frontier’s Five Trim Levels

The S

For a base trim, the S comes with quite a lot. You can get it with either a King or Crew Cab, and it rides on 16-inch steel wheels. Cloth upholstery, manually adjustable front seats, and a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel are all standard. This truck is off-road-ready, coming with a composite or steel front skid plate, front tow hook, and Hill Start Assist. You will also get a full-size spare tire and four tie-down anchors in the bed.

The dashboard consists of a seven-inch digital instrument cluster and an eight-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, and this can be controlled with voice commands. Other tech amenities include Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, a four-speaker sound system, two USB ports, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a push-button start. This truck will give you excellent peace of mind wherever you take it, as it comes with Nissan Safety Shield 360, which consists of several driver assistance features.

With Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, your truck will monitor the road in front, and if it detects a possible crash, you will get a visual and audial alert; if you do not quickly take action, the brakes will be applied automatically. With Rear Automatic Braking, if your pickup detects an obstacle while you are going in reverse, it can engage the brakes to help avoid a collision or lessen the severity of an impact. With Blind Spot Warning, you will always be aware of any vehicles in your blind spots and whether or not you should change lanes.

Pulling out of tight parking spots can be nerve-wracking, but with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, you’ll have great peace of mind; this tool uses sensors to monitor the area behind you, and if a car is coming from either direction, you will be warned. With Lane Departure Warning, if you drift out of your lane without meaning to (or fail to put your signal on), your Frontier will guide you back into your lane. Lastly, with High Beam Assist, your pickup will turn down your high beams when it senses oncoming traffic, and it will turn them back up when those other cars pass.

The SV

The SV trim can also be had as either a King or Crew Cab, and it ups the comfort level. Premium cloth upholstery, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and heated front seats are all standard. All trims moving forward also get a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system. Other SV goodies include wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a six-speaker stereo, four USB ports, and power-adjustable mirrors. If you opt for the Crew Cab, you will also get an under-seat rear cubby for additional storage space.

The SL

If you want to add a bit of luxury to your truck, see the SL, as it comes with leather upholstery, a four-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, a heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel, and heated side mirrors. You will also get an in-dash navigation system, a ten-speaker Fender stereo, remote start, LED headlights, daytime running lights, under-rail bed lights, a surround-view camera system, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The bed comes with a spray-in liner, adjustable bed tie-downs, and a 120-volt power outlet. Plus, on the rear, the SL comes installed with a Class IV tow hitch.

The PRO-X

If you’re ready to take your truck out on some of the more interesting parts of Knoxville, see the PRO-X, the Frontier’s simpler off-road trim. Available only as a Crew Cab and with rear-wheel drive, it has all-terrain tires, Bilstein off-road shock absorbers, and an aluminum skid plate.

The PRO-4X

If you are really serious about off-roading, the PRO-4X is the trim for you. It comes with four-wheel drive and everything in the PRO-X trim, except it also adds steel skid plates for the transfer case and fuel tank, an electronic locking rear differential, and Hill Descent Control. The PRO-4X can also come with Traffic Sign Information, which keeps you aware of the posted speed limit and how fast you are going, as well as a 360-degree Surround View Camera, which gives you a clear image of everything around your vehicle to aid in parking.
