Six Ways the Nissan Frontier Beats the Honda Ridgeline

Although the power and capabilities of a full-size truck are hard to argue with, midsize pickups these days deliver impressive muscle and nimble handling, making them fantastic for daily driving. If you’re already interested in a Nissan Frontier for sale near Oak Ridge, then you may have a sense of what makes this truck so impressive—but there are plenty of things you might be overlooking.

One of the best ways to fully appreciate a truck like this is to see how it stacks up to its competition, like the Honda Ridgeline. With more power, greater towing, and plenty of enhanced features on offer, one good look is all it takes to see why so many people choose the Nissan Frontier over the Ridgeline.

Although we’re looking at a number of specs and details today for these two trucks, there’s no better place to start than with the kind of power they offer as you drive around Oak Ridge each day. Both of these trucks have a single engine available, which makes it easy to compare performance between them—this also means you don’t have to worry about paying extra to get the power you need.

Nissan gives you a 3.8L V6 engine in the 2026 Frontier, which delivers 310 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. By comparison, the 2026 Honda Ridgeline comes with a smaller 3.5L V6 engine that provides just 280 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. You can see that Nissan delivers both greater horsepower and more torque, ensuring you have a truck that feels great as you drive.

Even though these are midsize pickups and not larger, full-size vehicles, you still want plenty of muscle to ensure you can take care of everything you need to do each day. Nissan comes through with the kind of performance you know you can count on, ensuring you have a truck that you’ll love driving.

Powerful engines are important for good performance, but that’s not the only thing you should look at when considering a truck. You also want to see that power put to good use through engineering that delivers real-world capabilities you can take advantage of every day.

The 2026 Honda Ridgeline, with its weaker engine, can tow up to 5,000 lbs and carry up to 1,583 lbs of payload when properly equipped. By comparison, the 2026 Nissan Frontier has 7,150 lbs of maximum towing and 1,590 lbs of max payload, coming out on top in both areas.

While that extra payload might not make much difference, the Frontier gives you much greater towing, which really matters when you’re looking to pull a boat, trailer, or camper behind your truck. This can make a big difference when it comes to getting the most from your pickup, and it’s a big reason so many people choose the Frontier over the Ridgeline.

#3 – More Options for Truck Performance

Not only do you get greater horsepower, torque, towing, and payload with the Frontier, but Nissan also provides you with more freedom to get something that perfectly meets your needs. The Honda Ridgeline is only available with all-wheel drive (AWD), which is nice but ultimately lacking when it comes to flexibility. 

With the Nissan Frontier, you can choose either rear-wheel drive (RWD) or four-wheel drive (4WD), providing you with the freedom to get what you need from your truck. The difference between Honda’s AWD and Nissan’s 4WD might be subtle, but we prefer how the Frontier handles overall on dirt and gravel roads and in slippery conditions when driving around Oak Ridge each day.

#4 – More Bed Sizes and Greater Cargo Capacity

We’ve already seen how Nissan gives you a greater payload rating for loading up your truck with everything you need to take with you each day, but your cargo needs go beyond that. You also get more room for the stuff you want to load up into your truck when you go with the Frontier. 

Looking at the 2026 Honda Ridgeline, it has one option: a five-foot bed that offers just 33.9 cu.ft. of cargo space. That falls far short compared to the Frontier (you’ll see how much in a moment), but it’s saved by an extra 7.3 cu.ft. of space in a trunk in the bed—something we don’t think is entirely necessary and can be hard to use, but it’s a fun addition.

Looking at the Nissan Frontier, you actually have two different bed lengths to choose from, which makes a huge difference when putting together the perfect pickup. First, there’s a similar five-foot bed that has 40.1 cu.ft. of space; you can see this is much more than the Ridgeline has in its bed.

If you choose the available six-foot bed for the Frontier, however, then you get 49.6 cu.ft. of cargo space, which is much more than Honda offers. The trunk in the Ridgeline can be useful, but we much prefer having two bed options and getting more room to load up with our stuff.

#5 – Better Ground Clearance for Off-Roading

If you’re interested in leaving the comforts of Oak Ridge behind and heading off-road in your truck, then the Nissan Frontier is a great option. You’ll want to choose a model with 4WD, of course, and we suggest the PRO-4X or PRO-4X R to get an impressive off-road machine. Honda also has some off-road options for the Ridgeline, which is good to see, but we find that they come up short by comparison.

For one thing, we prefer the 4WD that Nissan offers over Honda’s AWD system for hitting the trail, but the specs also tell the story. Even the off-road-focused Ridgeline TrailSport tops out at 7.64 inches of ground clearance (like other Ridgeline models); the Frontier PRO-4X, on the other hand, has 8.6 inches of ground clearance. This is not just an inch more than the Ridgeline, but it’s more than other Frontier models, showing you that Nissan understands how to make an off-road truck.

#6 – Fantastic Available Tech Features

We’d be here all day showing off the tech features of the 2026 Nissan Frontier, so we’ll focus on one simple way to showcase how impressive they are. The 2026 Honda Ridgeline comes with a nine-inch infotainment display, along with a similar seven-inch meter display for the driver.

The Frontier also has a seven-inch driver display, but there’s an available 12.3-inch infotainment screen that puts what Honda offers to shame. Nissan gives you a large, gorgeous display that’s easy to use with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This is the perfect example of how well Nissan delivers what you’re looking for.
